💛 Tolerance Week Activity Report: Understanding Tolerance 💛
At Royat Al-Ebtikar International School, we place great importance on empathy and understanding. As part of the Saudi Ministry of Education’s initiative to foster the value of tolerance across all grade levels, we were pleased to take part through a series of meaningful activities. Learning about tolerance from an early age can help discourage bullying while developing emotional intelligence — an important skill that benefits students throughout their lives. 🇸🇦❤️
From November 17 to 20, 2025, we hosted a range of activities centred around the theme “Understanding Tolerance.”
1. Introducing the Concept of Tolerance 🧠
One class was used to model the activity, and it worked wonderfully! The teacher led a thoughtful guided discussion, introducing students to the meaning of tolerance. Our wonderful students explored important ideas such as:
- Respecting differences 🤝
- Being open-minded 🧐💭
- Accepting others, regardless of their race, community, religion, habits, home, or country 🌍🫂
To help the children develop a deeper understanding, the concept was introduced progressively, beginning with the circles closest to them and gradually moving outward:
- 👪 Family Circle – Showing kindness, sharing, and accepting differences within the home.
- 🏫 School Circle – Respecting classmates, teachers, and the school environment.
- 🏙️ Jeddah Community – Understanding that people within their own city come from many different backgrounds and cultures.
- 🇸🇦 Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – Appreciating the beautiful diversity within our country while recognising the importance of unity and belonging.
This thoughtful progression helped students understand how tolerance begins with themselves and gradually extends to the wider community. It also encouraged a wonderful sense of belonging and a feeling of responsibility towards helping and supporting others. 🙌
The discussion encouraged everyone to reflect on how people can be different while still treating one another with kindness, respect, and understanding — a beautiful lesson for us all! 🥹💚
2. Creating a Mind Map 🎨✏️
To capture their wonderful ideas, the students got creative and created a simple mind map to reflect what tolerance meant to them. 🗺️
- A mind map template was kindly provided by the Activities Coordinator. 📋
- As there were five Primary classes, a photo of the completed mind map was projected onto the board for all classes to see and follow. 🖼️
- The children then added their own drawings, words, and colours to express their personal understanding of tolerance. 🖍️
The result was a beautiful and colourful display of learning!
💚 A Final Thought
The Tolerance Week activities, held from November 17–20, 2025, successfully supported the Ministry of Education’s goal of fostering this important value across all year groups. ✨
By exploring tolerance from the family level all the way to the national community, our students developed a stronger sense of belonging and learned the importance of helping and supporting others. Through discussion, visual activities, and creative expression, they gained a meaningful foundation for understanding and practising tolerance in their daily lives. 🥰🤲
